A website lasts, how long? Some sites celebrate birthdays; surviving for two or three years is considered an achievement. What is a website, anyway? Some data on a server, glimpsed for moments on a monitor. The code must change as the browsers change, and no site of any complexity will work correctly in all browsers.
        The Web itself will break unless standards are implemented, and that is one of the messages we have been invited here to impart. Yet in the face of the ancient and unchanging, our mission feels trivial – gone in the blink of an All-Seeing Eye.
        If places of worship turn your thoughts to the Eternal, they also suggest the nature of that Eternal. At the edge of this mighty fortress of Allah, the notion of a friendly American God, cheering from the bleachers as you score your first homer in Little League, seems an absurdly childish fantasy.
