Letter from Istanbul ...STILL LATER ON THIS FIRST NIGHT, we walk to the edge of Sultanahmet Camii, known throughout the world as The Blue Mosque. The building is both a marvel of design and, to our Western eyes, a fairy tale structure out of the Arabian Nights – one of many in this, the oldest part of the city.
We pause at the foot of a gigantic minaret, lamp-lit against the night sky. Conquerors, governments, earthquakes and world wars have come and gone without leaving a mark on the ancient column. And we have come, as guests of Hasan's newspaper, to lecture on the Web, a phenomenon of the past few years.
